Orange Shirt Day: September 30

September 20, 2017

September 30 has been declared Orange Shirt Day annually, in recognition of the harm residential schools did to children's sense of self-esteem and wellbeing, and as an affirmation that every child matters. People are encouraged to wear orange clothing or ribbons as a sign of respect and to honour the victims of residential schools – 80,000 of whom are still alive today.

Since September 30 falls on a Saturday this year, SD72 schools will be recognizing the date with lessons and events on residential schools, anti-racism and anti-bullying leading up to September 30.
