June 12, 2014
This is to inform you that the BC Teachers’ Federation has announced a rotating strike on Monday, June 16, 2014. A full strike will commence on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 until further notice.
As there will be no teachers available for instruction or supervision at the schools, starting Monday, June 16, 2014, we are advising parents/guardians of the following:
· Parents/guardians of children in kindergarten through grade 9 should not send their child to school.
· Parents/guardians with children in grades 10, 11 and 12 should only send their child to school if they have a provincial/government exam. The exams will be administered as scheduled. Only those students writing a particular provincial/government exam scheduled for a particular date and time should attend the exam as scheduled. Students will be provided a picket free access to the schools. The exam schedule will be posted on the School District 72 web page.
· As Friday, June 13, 2014 may be the last day of classes of this school year for all students, please have your children collect and bring home all their belongings from school. Text books should also be returned at this time. Text books for subjects that have a provincial/government exam will be collected on the day of the exam.
· Should the situation change and the strike action end, the school district will immediately inform parents and the school community via our website and email. As the situation remains quite fluid, I encourage parents to monitor the school district website regularly for updates.
