What to Expect at the Upcoming Spring Student-Led Conferences (K-8)

February 25, 2015

Next week our K-8 classrooms will be hosting student-led conferences. Most conferences will be held on Thursday, March 5 while some may be scheduled over the course of the week. If you do not already have a confirmed appointment, please contact your school or your child’s teacher. These conferences are an exciting opportunity for students to celebrate the progress they have made in their learning with their parents.

During the student-led conferences you will gain a deeper understanding of:

  • What your child is learning and evidence of how your child is progressing in relation to expectations for their grade level.

For K-5 Student-led conferences:
You will receive learning progressions indicating your child’s progress in relation to expectations in the areas of reading, writing, oral language, numeracy, and learning behaviours. Some teachers may also share progress in other areas including Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Second Language learning and PE.

For Grade 6-8 Student-led conferences:
You will receive learning progressions indicating your child’s progress in relation to expectations in the areas of Reading, Writing, Numeracy, Science, Social Studies, Learning Behaviours, Social Responsibility and PE. For other Exploration classes, you will have already received an overview of what your child is learning and a self-assessment based on the learning progression.

  • What the next learning goals or steps may be, and
  • How you can support your child at home.

Please know that your child’s teacher will be available to answer any of your questions. If you need more time than the teacher has available you may ask to book a follow up meeting.

We look forward to this valuable time to meet together to celebrate your child’s progress and share ways we can support your child’s continued success.
