Dear Parent / Guardian,
I regret to inform you that the Campbell River District Teachers’ Association has informed School District 72 that they intend to strike all district schools on Monday, May 26, as part of the BC Teachers’ Federation escalation to Stage 2 rotating strike action.
It is the sincere hope of the Board of Education and School District 72 administration that a settlement may be reached to avoid any disruption to classroom instruction. In the meantime, preparations are being made in the event that picket lines go up at district schools on Monday, May 26.
As negotiations between the BC Public School Employers’ Association and the BC Teachers’ Federation are scheduled to continue through the weekend it may not be possible to confirm Monday’s strike activity until the day before. The district will strive to notify parents and guardians in as timely a manner as possible through a telephone call and email home using the district’s automated notification system, the local radio stations, and on the district website (www.sd72.bc.ca).
For safety reasons and as there will be no instruction, I ask that parents keep all children home from classes on Monday, May 26 unless you hear otherwise from the school district website (www.sd72.bc.ca) or through our automated telephone and email system. Bus service will also not be available on this day.
All School District 72 schools will resume normal operation on Tuesday, May 27. As more information becomes available, the district will strive to keep parents and the public informed through the school district website. Should you have additional questions or concerns, please email email@example.com. Emails will be responded to within 24 hours.
Superintendent of Schools, School District 72
