International Program is Looking for Host Families

March 10, 2015

Campbell River Schools International will have a variety of students coming to Campbell River from Germany, China, Taiwan, Austria, Spain, Brazil, and Mexico. Most international students prefer to stay in families with children, especially children their own age, but we also have students who prefer a quieter setting with adults only. We encourage all families, with or without children, to get involved.

Most homestays are for the full school year, but others are for five months or less - even as short as two weeks.

Host parents are compensated $700 per month and are expected to provide a warm and welcoming home environment, parental supervision, a private bedroom with a desk or table to study, internet access, and three healthy meals per day, plus snacks.

Being a host family brings a new culture into your home - and you do not experience the inconveniences of travel! You will see the world through new eyes and will rediscover the joys of Campbell River as you share them with a newcomer. Homestay families have the opportunity to build a lasting relationship as many of our host parents have contact with their students for years afterwards. Meeting international students can also inspire our local students to travel, learn new languages and take an interest in global issues.

Training and support is provided to families interested in becoming a host family.

For more information on becoming a host family, contact Mercedes Hayduk, homestay contractor, at 250.895.5946 and RSVP to attend a homestay information session on March 18 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Timberline Secondary School library.
