Parents Invited to Internet/Social Media Safety Sessions

February 11, 2016
It is not uncommon for our kids to know more about the workings of the internet and social media than we as parents do, but School District 72 and the District Parent Advisory Council wants to help change that. Education is the first step in keeping our kids safe in this technology-driven world.

Parents and guardians are invited to a presentation on digital literacy and internet/social media safety with Darren Laur, of Personal Protection Systems, on March 7 and March 8 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Timberline Secondary Theatre.

Darren is a serving law enforcement professional with 29 years of policing experience who is deeply immersed in social media, both on and off the job. He has taught digital safety for the past 12 years as an internationally recognized safety expert and award winning author.

This session will include such topics as smartphone and webcam safety, how to secure your social network, what our kids are doing online, the dangers of screen names and profiles, who is the internet predator and what are their tricks… and much more!
