School Calendars to Be Revised: No Early Dismissal Days

April 20, 2018

Based on feedback from members of the public and district staff on the proposed calendars for the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 school years, the Board of Education has directed the superintendent to develop another calendar option that does not include early dismissal days.

The proposed calendars that were circulated had included five early-dismissal days where students would have been dismissed 90-minutes earlier to allow for teacher collaboration around the redesigned curriculum.

The majority of the feedback expressed concern over the early dismissal days and the subsequent difficulty that would cause for child care, as well as a desire for a two-week spring break.

The 2018/2019 school calendar should be finalized by the end of April and will be made available to parents and staff as soon as possible.
