During the 2015/2016 school year, the Ministry of Education introduced a draft new curriculum for kindergarten to grade 9. That curriculum was fully implemented in all public and independent schools in September 2016.
During the 2017/2018 school year, the Ministry of Education introduced draft new curriculum for grades 10 to 12. That curriculum was originally planned to be fully implemented in all public and independent schools in September 2018. However, the Ministry has since announced an extension for the implementation of the grade 11 and 12 curriculum to September 2019; the grade 10 curriculum will be implemented as planned in September 2018.

School District 72 schools continue to phase in the new BC curriculum for K-12 education during the 2017/2018 school year.
While teachers in kindergarten to grade 9 are now fully using the new curriculum, teachers in grades 10 to 12 have had the option to begin using the new approach on a trial basis to prepare for its full implementation by the 2019/2020 school year.The implementation dates for grades 11 and 12 at the secondary level was extended by one year by Education Minister Rob Fleming in November 2017 (announcement letter).
The grade 10 curriculum will be implemented in September 2018. The grade 11 and 12 curriculum will be fully implemented in September 2019.
