COVID-19 Alert Image.

With the land border between the U.S. and Canada recently opening and the winter break on the horizon, if you are thinking of taking a family vacation there are some federal restrictions around COVID-19 that you should be aware of.

Unvaccinated persons, including children, who travel outside of Canada cannot attend school for 14 days following their return. This restriction also applies to:

  • Daycares and camps;
  • Settings with vulnerable people (i.e. long term care facilities);
  • Large crowded indoor or outdoor settings (i.e. sporting events); and
  • Crowded public transportation that does not ensure physical distancing.

If you decide to travel internationally during the school year, please coordinate with your teacher and school beforehand to ensure that your child stays on top of schoolwork while they are away and for the 14 days following their return. There is not an option for hybrid learning.

It is the responsibility of parents and families to know and understand the federal and provincial guidelines and regulations before they decide to travel.
