Conduct Expectations

Acceptable Conduct

At Cedar we:

  • Are safe and kind
  • Respect self, others and the environment
  • Help to make Cedar a safe, caring and orderly place
  • Inform a “tellable” adult about concerns.

Unacceptable Conduct

These behaviours are examples only and are not an all-inclusive list.

Behaviours that:

  • Interfere with the learning of others
  • Interfere with orderly learning and/or play environments
  • Create unsafe conditions to learn, work or play.

Acts of:

  • Physical violence
  • Teasing, harassment, bullying, cyber-bullying or intimidation
  • Retribution against a person who has reported incidents
  • Discrimination as set out in Section 7 (Discrimination Publication) and Section 8 (Discrimination in Accommodation, Service and Facility) of the BC Human Rights Code: race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or age of that person or class of persons

Rising Expectations

At Cedar we feel that as children become older, and have learned and practiced our expectations for their behaviour they will demonstrate an increase in personal responsibility and self-discipline. Consequences for inappropriate behaviour will be determined on an individual basis according to circumstances, maturity and age.

Disciplinary actions, wherever possible, are preventative and restorative, rather than punitive. Opportunities to redirect or re-teach appropriate social expectations will be used as often as possible.

Notification

Our school personnel will advise other parties of serious breaches of the code of conduct:

For example:

  • Parents of student offender(s) – in every instance
  • Parents of student victim(s) – in every instance
  • School district officials – in the judgement of the school principal
  • Police and/or other agencies – as required by law
  • All parents – when deemed to be important to reassure members of the school community that school officials are aware of a serious situation or incident and are taking appropriate action to address it
