Georgia Park School Startup Information for Parents

Welcome back everyone!

We are excited to welcome all new and existing students and families for another year of learning together. The first week of school will once again have students participating in different activities before being placed in their new classroom.

The plan is:

Tuesday, September 3rd

8:30 – 10:00 – Students entering grades one through five will return to their class from last year. New students to our school will meet in the foyer in front of the office and a teacher will walk them to the class they will be connected to for the week. Students who are not new will line-up at the outside entrance to their class:

Mrs. Savery is the first door to the right of the main entrance when looking at the building.

Mrs. Lorenzo is the second door to the right of the main entrance.

Mrs. Pears is the first door around the corner on the playground side.

Mrs. Stricker is the first door to the left when facing the main entrance.

Mrs. Anderson is the second door to the left when facing the main entrance.

Mrs. Vaton is the first door around the corner of the school to the left of the main entrance.

Mrs. Lee is the second door to the left around the corner.

Ms. Holland (Ms. Crawford’s class from last year) is the third door around the corner.

Mrs. Boyd is the fourth door around the corner

Mr. Beavis is the school entrance close to the Strong Start room

Ms. Zumach (Ms. Lane’s class from last year), Mrs. Horsthuis and Mr. Berry will have their students line-up on the blacktop behind the school.

Dismissal – Students will be dismissed at 10:00 am from the same location they were dropped off.

11:00 – 12:00 – Kindergarten Introduction Day. Please meet us in the foyer at the main entrance to the school to begin your visit. For the remainder of gradual entry, there will be a sign posted indicating which classroom to meet each day.

Wednesday, September 4th to Friday, September 6th 8:30 – 2:15

Students will be placed in grade groups. On Wednesday morning please have your children meet their friends and teachers in the following locations:

Grade One students will meet Mrs. Stricker, Mrs. Lorenzo, and Ms. Holland at the front of the school by Mrs. Stricker’s class.

Grade Two students will meet Mrs. Vaton, Mrs. Anderson and Ms. Harry at Mrs. Vaton’s entrance around the corner to the left of the main entrance.

Grade Three students will meet Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Lee, Mr. Beavis and Mrs. Morrow at the StrongStart entrance around the corner to the left of the main entrance.

Grade Four and Five students will meet Ms. Zumach, Mrs. Horsthuis and Mr. Berry on the blacktop behind the school.

Dismissal – Students will be dismissed at 2:15 from the same location they were dropped off.

Friday Afternoon – Depending on the weather, students will be participating in a Fun Day Event that will be organized by our grade 5’s. This will be a fun way to celebrate our return to school. Our hope is that we will also be able to move students into their regular classes by Friday.

Parking Lot Etiquette:

Our parking lot can be extremely busy in the morning and after school. Please do not park in the drop off lane or leave your vehicle. For student safety, please use the crosswalks, obey parking signs and use the designated parking spots available if you would like to leave your vehicle to either drop-off or pick up your child. The side entrance on Arthur Street and the side parking lot will be closed to provide a safe area for our students to enter and leave their classrooms. Students should be using the crosswalk by the cedar tree, or the sidewalk behind the recycling bin to enter this area rather than crossing where the exit gate is. Also, students walking onto the property from Hudson street should come down Arthur street to the crosswalk to enter school property rather than entering through the exit gate that vehicles use.

Allergy Awareness:

We have several students with severe allergies in our school. We ask that if you receive a note from your child’s teacher indicating there is a child with an allergy in their class you avoid sending foods which may trigger an allergic reaction in that peer.

School Supplies for the 2024-2025 school year have been purchased in bulk. Supplies are $45 for students in K-5. Pay by cash, cheque or E-transfer. E-transfer payments can be made to: Georgiapark@sd72.bc.ca Please be sure to include the student’s first and last name in the reference line.
