Back to School Information - September 2025

General News, District News
Pinecrest Library with a 'Welcome Back' sign.

We’re excited to welcome students and families back for the 2025-2026 school year! Most students will start on Tuesday, September 2, but start times may vary depending on your child’s grade or program.

Kindergarten Gradual Entry

Kindergarten students begin the year with a gradual entry process. This helps them adjust to school and gives teachers time to get to know each child.

Most kindergarten students will attend for one hour on September 2. Your school will contact you with your child's specific time.

After the first day, teachers will follow up with families to explain the gradual entry schedule. Most students will begin full-day attendance by September 10 or 11, though this may vary by school.

If your family would like to request a longer gradual entry, please speak with your child's teacher and school principal.

New Student Registration

If your child is new to our district, please register by August 29 to secure a spot at your neighbourhood school. Placement depends on available space and staffing. This includes kindergarten students, students new to public school, and students who have moved to a new area or from another school district.

If there is no space at your neighbourhood school or you register late, your child will be added to a waitlist and may be placed at another nearby school.

To register, bring your child’s birth certificate, BC Service Card, and proof of your BC address, such as a hydro or phone bill.

Elementary Schools (Grades K-5)

Elementary schools reopen on August 25 for registrations and questions. Contact your school directly for office hours.

Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the new school.

Returning Late or Moving?

If your child is already registered but will miss the first week of school, let your school know in writing by August 26. If your child doesn’t attend and the school hasn’t been notified, they may be withdrawn. If you’re moving away, please let the school know so we can update our records and waitlists.
