Halloween at Southgate!

Halloween is almost here, and we’ve got a fun afternoon of celebration at Southgate planned for Tuesday! Students will have a ghoul time at many different stations throughout the school between 1:20 -2:50 pm!
At our school assembly on Monday, we discussed the importance of understanding cultural appropriation and how costumes should not be based on someone’s culture. Someone’s culture is not a costume. Here are two informative videos that I shared with our staff this week and that you might find helpful to view at home with your children:

Please also ensure weapons (knives, swords, etc.) are kept at home, that costumes are free from profanity and hurtful/hateful language, and that your child’s costume is tasteful and not offensive towards a particular group of people. Also, please no full face masks. We encourage everyone to have fun with their costume planning and dress-up and we’re looking forward to seeing all the great ideas.
