Battle of the Books Literacy Competition Celebrates Reading

School District 72 held its annual Battle of the Books on March 8. Battle of the Books is a literacy competition held by the school district's teacher-librarians to promote reading and contests were held for students in grades 3, 4, and 5.
For each contest, six books were identified for the students to read, starting in October. Teams competed by answering questions about the books testing their recollection and knowledge of the material they read.
The grade 3 winners were the École Willow Point team, the Marine Wolves comprised of Zareek Kamil-Ford, Zoe Masterman and Ella MacKinnon.
For grade 4 the battle went to the Ink Bots from Pinecrest Elementary, comprised of Kennedy Brown, Quesenia Khan, and another student who cannot be named due to a privacy request.
Grade 5 was won by the Peach Stealing Monkeys of École Willow Point, which included Hannah Check, Sophie Lee and Stella Barrie.
