District Approved for Childcare Spaces

We are very happy to share that the Ministry of Education and Child Care announced on April 21, 2022 that they will support the creation of 210 new licensed before and after school childcare spaces at seven district schools:

• Cedar Elementary
• Sandowne Elementary
• Georgia Park Elementary
• Pinecrest Elementary
• Ocean Grove Elementary
• Ripple Rock Elementary
• Quadra Elementary

Access to quality, inclusive childcare is vitally important, and these new before and after school spaces will go a long way to helping relieve some of the stress on working families.

While this announcement guarantees the funding to create these spaces, there is still a lot of work to be done before we can make the spaces available for families. We are not able to take registrations or start a waitlist yet.

We will be working to construct the spaces and address details, such as resources and staffing, as quickly as possible, but anticipate that these spaces will be ready for families in September 2023. Interested families should note that these spaces will not be part of the province's $10/day childcare plan and will be offered at a fee that covers the program's costs, which is still to be determined.
