Schools Honour Veterans and Military Personnel with Remembrance Day Ceremonies
Schools across the district held Remembrance Day ceremonies on Thursday, November 10 as schools are closed on Friday in observance of Remembrance Day.
At Timberline Secondary School's Remembrance Day assembly, a cenotaph was guarded by members of the Outdoor Adventure program and Timberline students who are members of the Navy, Army and Air Cadets. Members of the Legion's Colour Party started the ceremony with a Parade of the Colours, which was followed by the singing of our national anthem, performance of Last Post, a reading of In Flanders Fields, and a video presentation.
Students and staff also heard a touching tribute and reflection, which included learning about the symbolism of Honouring the Fallen with a Place at the Table, from Major Tylere Couture Officer Commanding B Company of the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada and member of the Timberline Wolves community.
While not officially Remembrance Day, November 10 marks the anniversary of the end of the battle of Passchendaele which was fought for over four months and in which 4,000 Canadians died and almost 12,000 were wounded.
On Remembrance Day, we hope that staff, students and families take a moment to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who have served.
