Carihi Tyees Win First-Ever Provincial Boys Soccer Championship
The Carihi boys soccer team has made school history, capturing the AA provincial championship in a standout performance at Burnaby Lake. The Tyees secured the title with a 3-0 win over the Collingwood Cavaliers of West Vancouver in the final on Wednesday, November 19.
Coached by teacher Ray Wilson and John Jepson, the team delivered a strong and confident run throughout the tournament. Earlier in the day, Carihi advanced to the final with a 3-1 all-Island semifinal victory over Edward Milne Secondary of Sooke. This capped off an undefeated showing in group play, where the Tyees posted wins of 3–0 over Smithers, 5-1 over Langley, and 2-1 over Sutherland Secondary of North Vancouver.
The team was led by captain Jonah Christiansen-Barker and tournament MVP Logan Prokopchuk, a grade 11 student whose steady play helped anchor the Tyees on both sides of the field.
This championship marks a major milestone for Carihi. It comes one year after a fire significantly damaged the school's gym wing. While much of the school community is now back on the Carihi campus, Wilson continues to teach physical education classes at Robron Secondary as repairs continue. The provincial win has been a bright moment for the entire Carihi community.
This is the first provincial soccer championship in the program’s history and a tremendous accomplishment for the players and coaches. Congratulations to the Carihi Tyees on their remarkable season and championship victory!
