SD72 Celebrates Top Academic Graduates
With the start of another school year right around the corner, the Campbell River School District is proud to announce the top academic graduates and recipients of the prestigious Governor General’s Academic Medals from last year’s graduation class of 2024.
Carihi Secondary graduate Mackenzie Hayduk and Timberline Secondary graduate Ella Gregory had the highest academic grade point average of their respective graduating class for their grade 11 and grade 12 courses.
For over 150 years, the Governor General’s Academic Medals have recognized the outstanding scholastic achievements of students in Canada. The medal is awarded to one student from each secondary school across the country.
Mackenzie will be attending St. Mary’s University this fall to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in astrophysics. She looks forward to becoming a leader in her future research field and finding opportunities to give back to the community either through scientific endeavors or by dedicating her own time and resources.
Ella will be attending the University of British Columbia for a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology. Outside of her studies, Ella plans to also continue to pursue her interest in dance.
“On behalf of their teachers and everyone in School District 72, we are extremely proud of Mackenzie and Ella,” says Geoff Manning, superintendent of schools for School District 72. “To achieve academic success at this level is an incredible achievement. They invested a great deal of hard work and perseverance, attributes that we know will translate to success on whatever path they choose to pursue.”
