🌎 Earth Day & Community Stewardship Days

MAIN
🌎 Earth Day – Friday, April 24
School‑based Learning Through the Day
Community Invitation from 1:00 pm onward
This year, our teachers are planning something different and exciting for Earth Day—a fresh approach that celebrates learning, land, and community. The daytime learning activities will take place within the school community, with a shared afternoon gathering that welcomes families and community members to join us in caring for the place we share.
🌱 Morning at School
The day will begin with a morning assembly to anchor the learning, followed by a Hummingbird story around 9:00 am, setting the tone for care, reciprocity, and reflection with the Earth.
🌿 Volunteer opportunity: 1:00–2:15 pm
Families and community members are warmly invited to join us beginning at 1:00 pm for an afternoon of hands‑on stewardship and shared work.
We will circle up on the field by the dragon at 1:00 pm, where additional logistics and group guidance will be shared.
Planned activities include:
  • Mulching wetland and landscape areas
  • Playground group, led by Derek (bus driver), working creatively with natural materials such as rocks and sticks
  • Greenhouse‑related activities, supporting ongoing growing and learning projects
All levels of experience are welcome—many hands make light work.
🔥 Closing Ceremony in the Wetland (2:00 pm)
At 2:00 pm, we will gather in the wetland for a closing ceremony focused on intention‑setting and giving back to the Earth.
  • fire will be present as part of the ceremony
  • Dayna and Brenda will sing
  • Taylor will facilitate a shared intention
🍎 Community Care
The PAC will be serving cookies, fruit, and vegetables at 2:15 pm to everyone present. Please stay and enjoy a snack together following the ceremony.
We look forward to honoring Earth Day through learning, shared work, and meaningful connection with land and community.

Field Clean‑Up Day – Saturday, April 25

Time: 12:00–4:00 pm

After the winter, many rocks have surfaced in our fields, and we need help getting them ready for spring play. Join us for an afternoon of rock picking, raking, and general field clean‑up.

Helpful items to bring (if you have them):

  • Wheelbarrows
  • Buckets
  • Rakes
  • Gloves
  • A few shovels

We’ll provide:

  • 🍕 Pizza
  • 🥤 Snacks and refreshments
  • 🎶 Music to keep the energy up and the work fun

Soccer and ultimate frisbee players will be invited directly, and families are encouraged to join in—this is a great opportunity to connect, contribute, and enjoy time together outdoors.

Flexible Support Across Both Days

If needed, field clean‑up work is also welcome to happen during the Earth Day community work party on Friday, April 24, allowing us to spread the work across both days and make participation easier for families.

Thank you for helping care for our school grounds and shared spaces—we look forward to celebrating Earth Day and community stewardship together! 🌱
