Field Trip

FT MARCH 16th

Upcoming Field Trip: Klahoose Hatchery and Basil Creek – March 16

Our K–1 class is excited to join local stream keeper Christine Robinson on an educational visit to the Klahoose Hatchery on March 16. This wonderful opportunity came up and we’re thrilled to jump on it!

Students will explore the salmon life cycle firsthand and learn how local stewardship helps protect and restore our watershed. In addition to the hatchery tour, students will also visit Basil Creek, located near the Squirrel Cove store just down the road from the Hatchery. This stop will give students a chance to observe a natural stream environment and see how salmon habitat connects to the broader ecosystem.

This experience ties directly to the coho eggs and salmon currently growing in our school tank. Seeing both the hatchery operations and a natural creek setting up close will help students deepen their understanding of salmon development, habitat needs, and the importance of caring for our local ecosystems.

We’re looking forward to a wonderful day of outdoor learning, exploration, and community connection!
