Ruploops: Music, Creativity, and Learning with Ruby Singh
Ruploops is an exciting, hands-on music and storytelling project led by award-winning Canadian artist Ruby Singh. Designed especially for Elementary and Middle School learners, Ruploops introduces students to rhythm, voice, sound, and creativity through an interactive and joyful experience.
Ruby Singh is a Juno-nominated musician, composer, and producer based on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations in Vancouver, BC. His work brings together music, spoken word, storytelling, and sound exploration inspired by the world around us—from birdsong and rain to rhythms from different cultures across the globe.
In Ruploops, Ruby uses live looping, vocal percussion, rhymes, and a fascinating collection of instruments from many cultures to show students how music is built layer by layer. Learners are invited to listen closely, join in, and discover how their own voices and ideas can become part of a shared musical creation. The experience encourages curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and confidence.
Ruploops connects music with learning goals such as:
- Creative expression and storytelling
- Listening and collaboration skills
- Cultural awareness and respect
- Exploring sound, rhythm, and pattern
- Understanding how art connects to community and the natural world
Ruby Singh is widely recognized for his work as an artist-educator and has received numerous awards, including the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Arts and Music, WCMA Global Music Artist of the Year, and BC Touring Council’s Artist of the Year. His passion for teaching through art shines in every Ruploops performance.
Ruploops shows students that music is everywhere, everyone has a voice, and creativity is a powerful way to learn, connect, and imagine new possibilities.
