Generous Donation Expands Field Trip Access for Students with Mobility Challenges

General News, Field Trips
Zacky is the first of many students to benefit from the district's new Josi stroller which allows students with mobility challenges to also get down on the beach for class field trips.

School District 72 is grateful to have received a generous donation from an anonymous donor, that will help create new field trip opportunities for students with mobility challenges. This gift enabled the district's accessibility committee to secure a matching grant from Variety Club the Children’s Charity, making it possible to purchase a Josi all-terrain accessible stroller, as well as a portable lift and sling to support safe transfers during field trips and outdoor learning experiences.

The Josi stroller is a game-changer, designed to navigate terrain like beaches and forest trails, it enables students with mobility challenges to participate more meaningfully in field trips and outdoor learning experiences alongside their peers. By reducing barriers to participation, this equipment helps create more inclusive, engaging, and meaningful experiences for students.

June 3 marked a special milestone as Zacky became the first student to use the Josi stroller during a class visit to Saratoga Beach, accompanied by his classmates and his mother, Sarah. It was a wonderful way to celebrate National Accessibility Week and recognize the impact of community generosity, partnership, and inclusion in helping every student thrive.
