Youth Train in Trades
Students can get a jump start on trades training through Youth Train in Trades. This dual-credit program allows grade 12 students to complete their first year of technical training in a trade while also earning credits toward their high school graduation.
Planning for these programs should ideally begin at least a year in advance. Starting in grade 10 or early in grade 11 is recommended to ensure all prerequisites are completed, as admission is competitive, and seats are limited.
Qualifying programs are tuition-free; however, students are responsible for any additional costs such as ancillary fees, materials, tools, and/or textbooks. You could be gaining experience, working in your field, and earning a pay cheque all before graduation.
Students can take a Level 1 or Foundation program at North Island College or one of our partner institutions.
Trades to consider include:
- Automotive Service Technician
- Carpentry (Comox)
- Electrical
- Hair
- Heavy Duty Mechanical
- Plumbing (Comox)
- Professional Cook
- Welding
Don't wait to build your experience and skills!
