The Gathering Place

Gathering Place (Grades 9-12)

The Gathering Place is an all-day program grounded in Indigenous Ways of Knowing, emphasizing holistic, experiential, and relational learning rooted in memory, history, and story. Each day begins with a Morning Circle, where students connect, reflect, and build community, fostering a sense of belonging and shared responsibility. Students earn graduation credits across grades and curricular areas.

Students engage in land-based learning as a central part of their education, exploring the land as both teacher and classroom. Through these experiences, learners deepen their understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems, reflect on their actions, and develop an awareness of generational roles and responsibilities.

Guided by Knowledge Holders, Elders, and local Indigenous partners, the program weaves culture, language, and academic learning together in meaningful ways. Students participate in:

  • Learning on the Land and culturally responsive academic support
  • Language classes that celebrate and preserve Indigenous languages
  • Cultural teachings, drumming, and singing that strengthen identity and community connections

. The Elm Program nurtures the whole learner—spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and physically—through respect, connection, and a deep relationship with the land.
