Truth and Reconciliation Day

Just a reminder that Friday, September 30^th is the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. This is now a statutory holiday and school will not be in session in acknowledgement of this important day. Please find attached an invitation from Laichwiltach Family Life & KDC Health regarding the annual walk and events planned for the day.

Southgate Middle School will be hosting our own Truth & Reconciliation Day (Orange Shirt Day) on Thursday, September 29^th while school is in session. Last year, we learned more about the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and we are continuing to deepen our understanding and commitment towards achieving them. On Thursday, we will have a school wide assembly to address this important issue and we invite all students and staff to wear orange in solidarity towards everyone impacted by the devastating effects of colonization and the residential school system.
