Building Independence Through Innovation

Curriculum & Learning, General News
2026 Timberline graduate Kael Cleverley

A school district teacher and 2026 Timberline graduate helped students build independence through simple, thoughtful technology.

Teacher for the visually impaired Bobby Orr developed an approach to adapt everyday toys so they can be controlled using push button switches. The goal is to give students with diverse needs the ability to activate and engage with items on their own, supporting greater access and autonomy.

The work was supported by Timberline Secondary graduate Kael Cleverley, who, in his Grade 12 year, helped bring the idea to life by modifying a range of toys. Projects included a customized Hot Wheels track, designed to remove barriers and support independent participation.

This collaboration highlights how classroom innovation and student learning can come together to create more inclusive opportunities for students.
