2026-03-04 District Chess Tournament 6

More than 100 students from across the district gathered at Georgia Park Elementary on March 4 for the annual district chess tournament.

Students from 10 elementary schools and both middle schools took part in the event. Players competed across their grade divisions and spent the day testing their strategy, patience and problem-solving skills at the chess board.

The tournament brought together students who have been building their skills through school chess clubs and classroom activities. For many students, it was their first time competing in a formal tournament setting.

Thank you to Rob Hatfield and Mary Morrow for organizing the tournament and managing the event set-up.

A special thank you also goes to the teacher librarians across the district who host school chess clubs and helped organize students so they could take part in the tournament. Their work gives students opportunities to learn the game, practice their skills and connect with others who share an interest in chess.

The district chess tournament offers students a chance to challenge themselves, meet new players and celebrate a shared love of the game.
