SD72 Graduates Recognized for Academic Excellence

The Campbell River School District is recognizing two exceptional graduates whose academic achievements have earned them the Governor General's Academic Medal, one of Canada's most prestigious student awards.

The 2026 recipients are Cole Pearson, a graduate of Carihi Secondary School, and Jack Bow, a graduate of Timberline Secondary School. Both earned the highest grade point average in their graduating class based on their Grade 11 and 12 coursework.

First established in 1873, the Governor General's Academic Medal recognizes the student who achieves the highest overall average upon graduation from secondary school. The award celebrates outstanding scholastic achievement and is one of Canada's longest-standing educational honours.

Cole plans to attend the University of Victoria to study mechanical engineering and hopes to one day launch a research and development company. During his time at Carihi, he participated in the Interact Club, performed as an accomplished pianist and was a member of the Carihi Jazz Band.

Jack plans to spend the next year working before beginning post-secondary studies. His interests in stagecraft and visual arts have inspired career goals in the arts or education. 

“Cole and Jack have demonstrated what’s possible through dedication, curiosity, and a commitment to learning,” said Geoff Manning, superintendent of schools. 

“Their achievements reflect years of hard work and the support of their families, teachers, and school communities. We congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition and wish them every success as they take their next steps.”
