Concert and Jazz Band

Concert Band

Concert band is offered to students in grade 9-12 at Carihi Secondary.  The bands perform regularly at local concerts, as well as attend the Vancouver Island Concert Band Festival each spring, as well as other band tours.  In the past, the bands have traveled to Whistler, Sun Peaks, Seattle, and Nova Scotia.  Previous middle school experience on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument is needed.

Jazz Band

Jazz band is offered to students in grade 10-12 at Carihi Secondary.  The jazz band performs regularly at local events and concerts, as well as attends the West Coast Jazz Festival at Vancouver Island University each spring.  In the past, the jazz band has also toured to Whistler, Sun Peaks, Seattle, and Nova Scotia.  Previous middle school experience on a woodwind, brass, or rhythm section instrument is needed.

Kolya Kowalchuk has been the music director at Carihi Secondary for the past 4 years where he teaches all levels of band.  Mr. Kowalchuk is a classically trained pianist and jazz drummer.
