Testimonials

I really enjoyed school and the Outdoor Adventure Program at Timberline School. Our class trips explored Campbell River and surrounding areas. I am from a bigger city so it has been nice to enjoy a smaller city. I feel that I know Campbell River better than my own city now. I have skied and camped on Mount Washington in the snow; paddled a canoe on Main Lake; and bicycled around Hornby Island. Fun!

Campbell River is a peaceful place with polite people. It's a wonderful place to live. I joined the soccer and tennis club which were new activities for me. I enjoyed science classes such as biology and chemistry because of the experiments and dissections we got to do. The teachers are amazing. I made many friends. My host family became like my family, and Campbell River became a second home. It was an unforgettable opportunity; I have no words to describe the best two years of my life.

I am very excited to have graduated from Carihi School after three years in Campbell River. I really like the people here. The school has been awesome and all of the teachers have been very helpful to me. I definitely learned a lot. I made many friends and participated in many activities but at the same time I made sure I maintained good marks in school. English was the hardest thing for me. Luckily, Canadian friends and wonderful teachers supported me. Academically, I competed in Math contests and the Physics Olympics. I also participated in sports such as basketball, tennis and joined Sports Leadership. When I first arrived in Campbell River, I came to see the different environment; however, I decided to stay because it became one of my favorite places on earth. I will be studying sciences at the University of Toronto then will move into the dentistry program. If you choose Campbell River, you will not be disappointed!

My experience here has been amazing. I have had so much fun! The people here are really friendly and open to new cultures. The international community is super cool and we are all like a big family. We have so much support from Lori, the International Coordinator, Mercedes, the Homestay Coordinator and Jana, the Activity Coordinator. If we have any questions or problems, we can find them at school. The teachers are very willing to help. It is nice having an adult you can rely on. I really like that I got the chance to live in a Canadian house and I was made to feel like part of the family and the community. Since I arrived, I have always had people I can rely on who are close to me.

I had an awesome time and made unforgettable memories. My host family was great! The first semester I was part of the Outdoor Adventure Program where we explored a lot of beautiful places on Vancouver Island on bikes, canoes, snowshoes and hiking. In winter, I spent every weekend at Mount Washington snowboarding. The second semester I was part of the Nautical Science program. It's a wonderful program where I learned how to sail, scuba dive and repair boats. In June we went on a two-week sailing trip. In my spare time, I visited the rock-climbing gym, played squash, joined a roller derby team, ran in the forest, and was part of the string orchestra in Courtenay. On the weekends I really enjoyed having beach fires, visiting the movie theater, going bowling or for walks on the beach. It was the best year ever!

My favorite part about the International Program in Campbell River was all the activities that were offered: there was more to do than just study! I did activities during school, after school, with the International Program and with my host family. It really helped me to try new things. First semester, I joined Musical Theatre and this was the first time I had ever done anything with music. It was really interesting for me to try something different. I also took figure skating lessons which I really enjoyed.
