$700K From New Feeding Futures Fund to Expand Food Programs

The Ministry of Education and Child Care has announced new Feeding Futures funding, which will allow school districts to build and expand on school food programs. The Campbell River School District will receive $709,927 under this new funding for next school year.
Through the provincial budget, the government announced that it would provide $214 million over the next three years for the Feeding Futures fund.
Last year, the Ministry provided one-time funding under the Student and Family Affordability fund to help students and families struggling with rising costs due to inflation.
Unlike the Student and Family Affordability Fund, which was for meal programs, school supplies and to cover other additional family costs, this new Feeding Futures funding is to be used exclusively for purchasing food and hiring dedicated staff to coordinate providing meals and snacks to students.
