Superintendent's Welcome Back Message to Families

Hello Campbell River families and students,

I’m Geoff Manning, your new superintendent of schools. I hope you have had a fun and relaxing summer. As we get ready to begin the 2023-24 school year, I want to share how excited I am to be joining our school district in beautiful Campbell River in my new role as superintendent of schools. 

September is a very busy time for schools and a busy time for the district overall. Principals, teachers, and support staff are eagerly awaiting your arrival at our schools next week. We are all committed to making your school experience a very positive one and are dedicated to helping you succeed in being the best that you can be.

 As we launch into the school year, we want to remind you that we will continue to focus on improved learning outcomes for all our students. We have an embedded literacy framework that will emphasize reading and writing skills at all grade levels, and we will continue to focus on Indigenous learners. 

An important Ministry initiative is the Feeding Futures program that is designed to help our district boost our existing food programs in schools as well as enhance options for local, healthy food for our students. This will ensure that students won’t be hungry in our schools and can focus on learning. Funding for this program is guaranteed for the next three years so we can look forward to robust and inclusive food programs in our schools well into the future. 

The district will also be focusing on the equity scan, implementing the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning, and completing the school district’s next strategic plan which will steer the course of the district over the next four years. 

I hope that you are as excited to begin the new school year as I am. Let’s work together to make this learning year the best one ever. I look forward to meeting you all and learning and growing together.
