Honouring Remembrance Day with Respect and Reflection

Curriculum & Learning, General News
Ocean Grove class reads the poem "Little Poppy"

On November 11, the Campbell River School District joins the nation in observing Remembrance Day, a solemn moment to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country. Leading up to Remembrance Day, themes of respect, reflection, and gratitude take center stage in our schools.

In classrooms across the district, educators deliver lessons that are both informative and emotive, ensuring that the essence of this day resonates with every student. Discussions revolve around the themes of peace, courage, and the importance of remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

From writing heartfelt letters to veterans to creating poppy-themed art, every student participates in learning that not only reflects on history but also builds their capacity for empathy and community service.

Together, we partake in school assemblies, where stories of bravery are shared, songs that echo the sentiments of the day are sung, and the significance of the poppy is revisited. Many of our schools also extend invitations to local veterans and service members to join our observances. Their presence offers a tangible connection to the narratives we pass down, bridging generations and deepening the day's impact.

As we observe Remembrance Day, let us all remember — not just today, but every day — the lessons of the past and the responsibility we carry for the future.
