Schools across the Campbell River School District gathered in different ways over the last two weeks to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Through assemblies, performances, shared meals, and collaborative events, students and staff reflected on the importance of truth, reconciliation, and our shared responsibility to walk this path together.

On September 29, Robron Centre welcomed students and staff from nearby Sandowne Elementary to join in their Truth and Reconciliation event. Guests were greeted with a warm welcome from Greg Henderson of the Wei Wai Kum First Nation before taking in a powerful art installation that showcased the learning of Robron staff and students. The day also featured a moving performance by the school's drumming group.

For Sandowne students, the chance to participate alongside older students was both meaningful and inspiring. That same day, Georgia Park Elementary students and staff wore orange and came together for an assembly followed by a neighbourhood walk. The walk served as a visible act of recognition and remembrance, while the assembly provided space to learn and reflect as a school community.

Ripple Rock Elementary marked the day with a special event that featured traditional drumming and dancing. The powerful performances highlighted cultural teachings and provided students with a deeper understanding of Indigenous traditions and resilience.

At Cedar Elementary, the school community gathered for a pancake breakfast before beginning their day of learning and reflection. Families, students, and staff shared food and conversation, creating space to honour survivors and those impacted by residential schools.

Across the district, these events highlighted the many ways schools are working to build understanding, strengthen connections, and support reconciliation in meaningful and age-appropriate ways.
