Joint Statement on Inclusive, Safe, and Caring Schools

October 15, 2025
The Campbell River Board of Education and School District, Campbell River Principals’ and Vice-Principals’ Association, Campbell River District Teachers’ Association, and CUPE Local 723 collectively affirm our commitment to creating safe, caring, and inclusive learning environments for all students, staff, families, and community members.
We believe every individual has the right to learn and work in spaces free from discrimination, harassment, and hate. Guided by the BC Human Rights Code, we are dedicated to upholding the dignity and rights of all people – regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, ability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or any other aspect of identity.
Safe and inclusive schools are built on respect, acceptance, and education. By fostering understanding and challenging discrimination in all its forms, we prepare students to be socially responsible citizens who contribute to a more equitable society.
We denounce misinformation, threats, hate, and violence directed at any individual or community. Acts of discrimination have no place within our schools, offices, or community.
We are also committed to open communication and partnership with parents and caregivers. The best source of information about what is happening in classrooms and schools remains the teacher or principal, and we encourage families to reach out with questions or concerns.
Together, by valuing diversity and ensuring the rights of all, we can build welcoming schools that support every learner to thrive – today and for future generations.
Sincerely,
Kat Eddy Chairperson SD72 Board of Education | Geoff Manning Superintendent School District 72 | Seán McLaughlin President CRPVPA | Debra Coombes President CRDTA | Andrea Craddock President CUPE 723 |
