Community Pavilion to be Built on Surge Narrows School Site

The Board of Education has approved construction on an outdoor meeting pavilion at the Surge Narrows school site after the Surge Narrows Community Association secured grant funding of $39,600 through the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative.
Construction on the pavilion was approved in principle by the board at their October 26, 2021 public board meeting and now the project has been granted full approval after the community association secured a site plan, building design and engineering and commercial liability insurance.
The Surge Narrows Community Association will be responsible for all construction and maintenance costs.
In 2020, the community identified the need to create a dry covered gathering place for people to be able to safely gather outdoors, as well as provide a safe outdoor learning environment for Surge Narrows students.
It's hoped that the outdoor gathering place will also enable community members and visiting educators to safely make presentations and hold workshops for students. The structure will also have some tables for students to be able to eat their lunch and snacks outside.
