Welcome Back for the 2022-2023 School Year

Dear parents/guardians,
The Board of Education and district staff welcomes all students and their families to the start of another school year. Our staff have been working hard to get our schools ready and we can’t wait to see our classrooms and schools come alive once again – infused with the energy and activity of learning!
As we start our fourth school year affected by the pandemic, we will continue to meet all provincial and public health COVID guidelines. Masks are optional for students, staff, and visitors, and personal choice will be respected. Please continue to be aware of your child’s health and keep them home when they’re sick.
The provincial government recently announced a one-time fund of $60 million to help families affected by inflation and cost of living increases. Our district will receive approximately $600,000 through this funding.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will consult with schools, parent advisory councils, and the Indigenous Education Advisory Council about how best to use this money to support the needs of families in our community. We will consider how to possibly expand our meal programs, make sure students have the school supplies they need, and cover field trips, school and other activity fees.
If your family needs help with covering school start-up costs, please speak with your child’s principal. Your conversation will be held in confidence, and we will consider how we can help as we never want costs to get in the way of a student being able to fully participate in learning.
As you prepare for the first day of school next week, be sure to check the district website (www.sd72.bc.ca) for opening day start times, bus routes, and other back to school information. We also ask that you remind your child(ren) about safety precautions for walking to and from school and road safety, particularly at crosswalks, intersections and when getting on and off the school bus.
Wishing you all a successful 2022-2023 school year. Thank you for entrusting your child’s education to us. We are excited about the learning that will take place this year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeremy Morrow
Superintendent of Schools
