School District Honoured with City Stewardship Award

General News
Lt to Rt. Councillor Charlie Cornfield, SD72 Manager of Capital Projects Steve Woods, SD72 Board Vice-Chair Kat Eddy, Councillor Colleen Evans and SD72 Board Chair John Kerr.

Campbell River School District was honoured with a stewardship award from the City of Campbell River for our efforts in water and energy conservation initiatives. The award was presented to Board Chair John Kerr, Vice-Chair Kat Eddy and Manager of Capital Projects Steve Woods on September 25 at the Haig-Brown House.

The awards recognize groups, individuals or businesses in the city who are reducing their ecological footprint and improving natural areas.

Between 2007 and 2021, the district's energy use has decreased by 29%, resulting in a 16% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. This reduction exceeded the 2025 provincial climate change target by four years and have primarily been through the ongoing adoption of high efficiency technologies and upgrades to lighting, mechanical and roofing systems.

The district also promotes energy conservation and environmental awareness in our schools through school gardens, recycling programs, solar hot water systems, weather-based irrigation and outdoor education programs.
