Grades 6 to 8
Project Based Learning (Many Areas of Learning Together in a Project)
Project-based learning involves curiosity and exploring interests. When students develop their own problems, ask questions, investigate answers, try new things, and then teach that to others, the most amazing learning happens. Reading, writing, science and social studies skills come together during project-based learning.
YOU CAN: Help your child to learn more about an area of interest, try new things, ask questions, and do something new together. Read and write about the experience.

In grades 6-8, students are using language to create and communicate. By this age, students should be reading a wide range of more challenging fiction and non-fiction both in print and online. Students should understand and question what they read.
YOU CAN: Have your child write stories, write persuasive letters, respond to things they read online, write song lyrics, write out recipes, keep a journal, and research their interests. Be inspired by listening to podcasts, use online books and magazines, newspapers, YouTube, or even video games.

YOU CAN: Help your child to see how math is used every day. When cooking or baking together, consider doubling the recipe or cutting it in half to add challenge. Take your child shopping and set a budget so that they need to add as they shop, weighing and calculating costs. Talk about your household budget, living costs, loans, and interest rates.
